What does the Clerk of the Circuit Court Provide?

The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court is a public institution rich in the tradition and history of the State of Maryland.  The Clerk of Court is one of the oldest public offices in our State and dates back as far as 1658.

Although the Clerk is a locally elected state official who occupies an integral position within the judicial branch of government, the Clerk’s duties and responsibilities are fixed and regulated by the laws of Maryland and the Rules of Court.  Every resident of the State is a potential recipient of the services provided by the Clerk’s Office.

A significant portion of the funds collected for these services are distributed to the City, County or State government agencies.  The records which are maintained and controlled by the Clerk’s Office are available for inspection except where prohibited by law.
