Sisters To Sisters
The Sisters to Sisters Program assists female offenders who are in need of positive
influences both mentally, emotionally and socially before and after release from
the Prince George's County Department of Corrections to their community. An emphasis
of the program is to link female detainees with women employed by the Prince
George's County Government, community resources, agencies and other support system.
Mission Statement
All people deserve equal opportunities of hope. Realizing that none of us are immune to the trials and tribulations of life, Sisters to Sisters was established as a support system to assist in transforming the lives of other women who are in need of a helping hand.
- reduce the County's Correctional Center population,
- strengthen moral fortitude, and
- successfully assimilate female offenders back into mainstream society by providing them with essential post-release supplemental services necessary to stop the cycle of repeated incarceration.
Program Purpose
- To provide a multi-faceted mentoring program between women employed by the
Prince George's County Government and female detainees at the Prince George's
County Department of Corrections.
- To provide positive role models to incarcerated women in need of encouragement
and self-betterment.
- To engage in one-on-one mentorship that motivates the mentee to live
drug-free and maintain a healthy productive lifestyle for themselves and
their children.
- To provide emotional and/or professional support to incarcerated women
that will follow them from incarceration to transition back into the community.
- To provide transitional resources and assistance to mentees through various
county agencies.
- To provide mentor/mentee events and activities that provide opportunities
for mentees to become exposed to a variety of educational and cultural
experiences.
- To provide transitional opportunities for women being released from jail
through fundraising and community outreach efforts.
