Dear Friends,
I
hope you are enjoying the summer. There are numerous FREE
family-oriented activities featured in this issue of my e-news which
I hope you and your family will have the opportunity to enjoy.
Even more events can be found on the County’s website.
My
office just held two successful events—a dinner for civic association
leaders and a bus tour for developers with key local, county and
planning leaders to learn more about revitalization and redevelopment
opportunities along key corridors and metro stations in District
3. At the civic association dinner, civic presidents had the
opportunity to find out more about some of the nonprofit activities
happening in District 3 as well as the services provided by the
County’s Health, Family Services, and Social Services Departments.
The redevelopment bus tour, which began at College Park City Hall,
highlighted redevelopment opportunities in College Park, Riverdale
Park, the greater Riverdale area, Annapolis Road, and at the New
Carrollton Metro Station. The bus tour also traveled the route
of the future Purple Line between New Carrollton and College Park and
highlighted numerous transit oriented development opportunities.
For
those of you living in Police District I (all areas of our council
district within the Beltway), we have a new Commander, Major Robert
Liberati. I have worked closely with Major Liberati on a number of
issues, including on legislation to crack down on pawn shops. I have
always found him to be responsive, professional and dedicated, and I
look forward to his command of Police District I - he will be an
excellent partner for our communities.
Finally,
you may be interested in an opinion piece I wrote that appeared in
the Washington Post on Sunday, June 27th. See "What
the Next U-Md President Can Do" on the Washington Post
website if you're interested. I highlighted a number of
collaborations that the next University President could pursue to
strengthen our community.
Take
care and please call my office with any questions or concerns.
