Bowie Fest

The City of Bowie’s largest community festival is held annually on the first Saturday in June (June 6, 2009) at Allen Pond Park.  For all the details, including vendor information, please call 301-262-6200.


Bowie Memorial Day Parade The Annual City of Bowie Memorial Day Parade will take place on May 23, 2009 beginning at 11:00 am.  The parade begins at Belair Annex on Belair Drive and proceeds down Belair, turns right on Sussex Lane and right again at Stoneybrook Drive.  The reviewing stand will be at Acorn Hill Park located at the corner of Stoneybrook Drive and Sage Lane.


Animal Shelter Visitation
The Greenbelt Animal Shelter located at 550-A Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD is now open regularly for visitation and adoption on Wednesdays, from 4pm to 7pm and on Saturdays, from 9am-12pm.  For more information, please dial 240-508-7533.


Greenbelt Dance Recital
On Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 7:00 pm the 3rd Annual Greenbelt Spring Dance Recital, Safari Suites, will be held at the Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD.  Ages 5 and younger are welcomed for free.  All others, tickets are $5.00.


Lanham Boys and Girls Club To Sponsor Potter Summer Youth Baseball Camp
The Lanham Boys and Girls Club will sponsor a Summer Youth Baseball Camp for ages 8-14 from July 20 – July 24 from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm at the Lanham Boys and Girls Club located at 7700 Goodluck Road, Lanham, MD.  The cost of the camp is $175.00 and includes Expert Evaluations, T-Shirt and drinks.  Players must provide their own bats, gloves and helmets.  If you sign up before May 31, 2009 the price is reduced to $125.00.  For more information, please call Jeff Potter at 410-672-4315 or 410-562-4463 or email potterbaseball@yahoo.com.


Lanham Boys And Girls Club To Sponsor Football Clinic-  The Lanham Boys and Girls club is sponsoring a free football clinic for ages 6-16 at the Lanham Sports Park located at 7700 Good Luck Road Lanham, MD.  The Clinics will take place on Fridays from 6:00pm-8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am-12:00 noon through July 18, 2009.  You will receive hands on lessons and training from the top area High School and College Coaches in the areas of passing, receiving, running back drills, blocking, punting, kicking, defensive skills and 7 on 7 tournaments.  Each player will receive a free T-Shirt.  For more information, please call the club hotline at 301-552-3078.

County H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) Information Line Now Open
Prince George’s County has established a hotline providing information on the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu).  You may reach the hotline by calling 301-583-3100 from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm Monday through Friday or 1:00 pm through 4:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.  Other hours, you may dial the MD. State Information Line at 1-877-633-5848.


Rabies Vaccination Clinic
Bring your cat, dog and ferret to the Spring 2009 Rabies Vaccination Clinic at Bowie High School, 15200 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD on May 30, 2009 at 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at a cost of $5.00 per animal.  State Law requires that all cats, dogs and ferrets be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age, and need to be kept current.  For more information about these clinics, call 301-583-3782.

Zoning Ordinance And Subdivision Regulations Community Meeting
The Prince George’S County Planning Department Will Be Sponsoring A Community Meeting For The Amending Of The Prince George’S County Zoning Ordinance And Subdivision Regulations.  The Meeting Will Take Place Thursday, May 28, 2009 From 6:30-8:30 Pm At The M-ncppc Parks And Recreation Administration Building In The 1st Floor Auditorium Located At 6600 Kenilworth Avenue, Riverdale, Md 20737.  This Is A Chance For The Public To Ask Questions About How The Process Works And Provide Comment For Future Policy.  The Topics Up For Discussion Include, General Plan Policy Recommendations And Implementation Issues Associated With Current Regulations And The Best Implementation Practices From Across The County.  To Rsvp Or Get More Information, Contact The Prince George’S County Planning Department At 301-952-4584 Or Visit  Here .
There Will Be A Future Meeting On October 21, 2009 To Discuss Streamlining The Development Review Process And How To Further Improve The Zoning Ordinance And Subdivision Regulations.


M-NCPPC Sponsors Safe Summer Sites 2009 The Maryland National Capital Park And Planning Parks And Recreations Division Is Sponsoring Safe Summer Sites For The Residents Of Prince George’S County Ranging In Age From 12-24 Years.  There Will Be Sites That Are Open With Extended Hours During The Summer To Provide A Safe Haven And Place For Activity In A Central Location.  Starting June 22 – August 22, More Than 25 Locations Will Be Open From 10-pm Until Midnight With A Number Of Activities Available.  Activities May Include Laser Tag, Nintendo Wii Competitions, Basketball Leagues, Enrichment Sessions, Soccer Games, Movie Nights, Dance Lessons, Poetry Workshops, Team-building Exercises, Animal Showcases, Pool Parties, Swim Lessons And More.  The Bowie Community Center Located At 3209 Stonybrook Drive, Bowie, Md 20715 Is One Of The Sites To Host The M-NCPPC Safe Summer Program.  For More Information You May Visit The Website At Http://Www.Pgxtremeteens.Com For A Listing Of  All The Participating Locations.

    The Bowie State University Softball Team Claimed Their 3rd Consecutive Ciaa Conference Championship By Defeating Fayetteville State University By A Score Of 9-1.
  • Standout Running Back Isaac Redman Signs With Pittsburg Steelers Organization
    The
    Pittsburgh Steelers Have Signed Former Bowie State Running Back Isaac Redman To A Free Agent Contract.  Redman Ended His Prolific Career At Bowie State University As The Schools All Time Leading Rusher.
