Dear District 4 Residents:

As winter gives way to spring, I am honored for this opportunity to reaffirm my commitment to YOU.  WhilePrince George’s County continues to face unprecedented fiscal challenges, I, along with my Council colleagues, are working hard to identify viable solutions to the challenges we face.  It is my privilege to work on your behalf as Council Representative for District 4 and I will continue to forge partnerships with agencies, businesses, non-profits, faith based organizations, elected officials and you, our citizens, to make Prince George’s County the best place to live, work, play and learn..

The Council is currently conducting our review of the County Executive’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2010, submitted in March.  As I participate in that process, I am continuing to advocate strongly for education as a spending priority.  Please take advantage of every opportunity to participate in the budget process by attending committee budget sessions and participating in our public hearings. For information on scheduled public hearings on the proposed budget, please visit our website, www.princegeorgescountymd.gov.  I look forward to your input and suggestions – TOGETHER we can achieve more.

If there is anything I can do at the County level to help improve the quality of our District 4 community, please contact my office with your questions or concerns– we are at your service.

Working for YOU!

Living Green and Saving “Green”

How can you help save our environment and save money at the same time?  By making small changes in your daily routine, you can make a major difference in the conservation efforts in your home, your neighborhood, your schools and your county!  Let’s build a partnership to making District 4 a significant part of Prince George’s County “Living Green” efforts.

In the Going Green” section of The Gazette, The Prince George’s County Office of Central Services provided some excellent tips on Living Green.

Here are some
tips to help you develop a plan for you and your community.

Living Green in Your Home

  • Switch to compact florescent light bulbs
  • Recycle and compost
  • Unplug appliances when they are not in use
  • Replace old appliances
  • Drink from the tap
  • Adjust your thermostat
  • Check your tire pressure

Living Green in Your Neighborhood

  • Use recycled grocery bags instead of plastic bags at the grocery store
  • Buy local and organic foods
  • Team up with other households and sign up with your utility company to compare energy costs during a certain time period

Living Green in Your Schools

  • Turn off your car while waiting in the carpool lane
  • Encourage conservation efforts with other parents through your PTA
  • Send recyclable items in your child’s lunch

Living Green in Your County

  • Use public transportation
  • Donate food, old clothes and toys to local organizations
  • Plant trees and shrubs

You will help to significantly conserve resources and reduce waste by using these energy saving tips.  It is important that we all educate ourselves on “Living Green” and encouraging others, especially our children to do the same.
