UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Today, Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson hosted the Sixteenth Annual Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Prince
George's County Prayer Group at the La Fontaine Bleu in Lanham, Maryland.
Standing before a crowed room of attendees Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson said "It is always heart warming
and soul stirring to attend occasions such as this, for it reaffirms that we can gather together and give testament to what
is good and meaningful in our lives." Johnson further remarked "It is also testament to the fact that government is not some
cold unapproachable entity, without heart, unity and spirit."
The Honorable Herman C. Dawson, Judge of the Prince George's Circuit Court praised Johnson for his strong leadership as county
executive. Dawson also served as the lead organizer for this event.
The Ecumenical service consisted of five prayers of unity that were delivered by Father Larry Young of St. Mary's of the Mills,
Rabbi Gary Fink of Oseh Shalom Synagogue, Imam Sheikh Javid of the Islamic Community Centre, Kunji-Kishore Chaturvedi of Hindu
Temple and Reverend Lee Washington of Reid Temple AME.
"Over this past year, the county has made significant strides in the areas of education, public safety, health and human services
due to our ability to work cohesively with residents, citizens and our faith base institutions to further achieve our common
goal of making all of Prince George's a unified and livable community," said Johnson.
The Prince George's Prayer Group meets to deepen friendships, to pray and counsel together. The annual County Executive's
Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Prince George's Prayer Group is modeled after similar breakfasts that have taken place across
the United States. As a natural outgrowth of such gatherings, many people throughout the world are finding, through the ecumenical
spirit, a fellowship that is helping to build a true community in the family of nations.
