UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson today urged county employees and residents to help the people affected by
Hurricane Katrina that devastated the Gulf Coast earlier this week.
“I believe now, more than ever, we must take immediate action to assist and support our fellow Americans,” Johnson said. “Your
county government and its employees are also doing their part. I have asked the employees of Prince George’s County to make
donations to the American Red Cross, and I know we will respond as we have in the past.”
Johnson sent open letters to county employees and residents urging them to contribute to the relief efforts. Additionally,
a link to the American Red Cross has been placed on the county’s website, www.goprincegeorgescounty.com and Johnson is asking everyone to donate to the relief effort.
“Many of our county residents have families and friends in the affected areas,” Johnson said. “Our hearts go out to them and
we pray for the safety of all the millions of people who have been impacted by this event.”
The county responded in a similar fashion last December after a devastating Tsunami struck Southeast Asia. Residents and government
responded by donating time and money to the relief effort.
The county will launch many activities in observance of National Emergency Preparedness Month, which began today. Free emergency
preparedness bags encouraging residents to Pack, Plan, Practice will be available at various locations around the county. Pack, Plan, Practice gives residents practical information and resources to simplify and manage the emergency planning process.
