The Legal Affairs office is responsible for the coordination and administration of legal matters for the Department. The main focus is placed on Federal mandates.

Some of the responsibilities of the Legal Affairs office include:

• Investigates and interprets EEO, ADA, FLSA and FMLA law
• Liaisons with the Office of Law and attorneys with outside agencies
• Review contracts, grants, Memorandum of Understandings, and Mutual Aid Agreements prior to submission to the Administrative Review Committee
• Respond to subpoena requests for personnel and official records/documents maintained by the Department
• Represent Department in legal matters before the Maryland courts, administrative agencies and other judicial tribunals.
• Discuss/review legality of policies and practices prior to implementation by the Department
