Andrea C. Harrison (D) –, a native of the City of Glenarden, represents the 5th Councilmanic District of Prince George’s County, which includes the constituent areas of Glenarden, Bladensburg, Cheverly, Edmonston, Fairmount Heights, Landover, Colmar Manor, Cottage City, Springdale, and portions of Bowie, Lanham, Hyattsville and Mitchellville. She was re-elected to her first full term of office in 2010, following a 2 year term precipitated by the gubernatorial appointment of David C. Harrington to a vacancy in the Maryland State Senate. Recognizing her effective and unique leadership ability, she was chosen by her Council colleagues to serve as Vice-Chair for Legislative Year 2010.

Council Member Harrison, the first woman elected to represent District 5 on the County Council, occupies the seat once held by her late father, the Honorable James C. Fletcher, Jr. She currently serves as Chair of the Council Committee on Health, Education and Human Services and wields considerable influence on broader regional issues impacting Prince George’s County as Chair of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG).

A lifelong resident of District 5 in Prince George’s County, Council Member Harrison served the residents of the County for more than 15 years as a community activist. She attended Prince George’s Community College, earning an Associate degree in Computer Management and later earned her Undergraduate degree in Public Policy from Bowie State University. Additionally, Council Member Harrison is a graduate of Leadership Prince George’s; a graduate of the Academy of Excellence in Governance at the Institute of Governmental Service of the University of Maryland; 2nd Vice Chair of the National Association of Black County Officials (NABCO).

Council Member Harrison lives in Springdale with her husband Charles, and their sons, Eric and Christian. Their daughter, Nikita Adams, resides in Los Angeles, California.
