National
Night Out
Prince
George’s County Council Member Ingrid M. Turner (D) – Attended National
Night Out on Tuesday, August 3,
2010 at locations throughout District 4. Council Member Turner was able
to speak with where she along with
state locally elected official, and safety officals spoke with
residents, civic groups, and neighborhood organizations, about safety
in the community.

First Day of School
Council
Member Ingrid M. Turner was joined by staff and community volunteers,
to visit each of the district’s elementary and middle schools to
welcome students and parents on the first day of school, Monday, August
23, 2010.
“We
look forward to seeing the children each year and bringing them a warm
welcome on the first day of school,” said Council Member Turner. “I am encouraging every parent to
bring their child to school on the first day. It is so important to show our
children that we support them in their educational endeavors.”
Council
Member Turner is thankful to the many volunteers that helped ensure all
the elementary and middle school children in District 4 were greeted
with a warm smile and are wished success from Council Member Turner for
the new school year.
This
year Council Member Turner specifically welcomed the children at
Springhill Lake Elementary School from 7:30 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. and Robert
Goddard Montessori and French Immersion from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

DPW&T Community Partners Meeting
The Prince George’s County
Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) is holding
its quarterly “Community Partners” meeting on September 8, 2010 at 9:00
AM. These meetings are intended to work with community organizations to
improve delivery of DPW&T services to county residents. The main discussion topic will be
this year’s combined “Gorgeous Prince George’s Day” and Countywide Fall
Cleanup Activities, both scheduled for October 16, 2010. The meeting will be held at the
Maintenance Operations Facility at 8400 D’Arcy Road, Forestville,

WSSC Public Hearing
The Washington Suburban Sanity Commission
will hold a public hearing on the Proposed Capital Improvements Program
(CIP) for Fiscal Years 2012 through 2017, which commences July, 1
2011. The six-year CIP proposes
planning, design and construction expenditures for major water and
sewer projects. Please contact
the Commission as soon as possible if your attendance at the meeting
will require an accommodation under Title II of the Americans with
Disabilities Act. The Public
Hearing will be held on September 16, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the RMS
Building, Room 208, 1400 McCormick Drive, Largo, MD.
After public comment, the CIP will be
transmitted to the County Executive and County Council by October 1,
2010.
Copies of the preliminary draft of the
FY2012-2017 Capital Improvements Program will be available by August
27, 2010,
at the WSSC Communications & Community Relations office, 14501
Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, MD 20707, or by phone at 301-206-8100. If you are unable to attend the
hearing and have comments for consideration, please submit them
by September 27, 2010.
Annual Health Fair
The Annual Bowie
Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 11 am to
3 pm. Receive health assessments from the more than 40 free or low cost
screening services, health care consultations, health activities and
the more than 30 exhibitors on hand to provide services and information
to residents of Bowie and the Greater Bowie area. Services range from
alternative health care options including acupuncture and Reiki to
cholesterol and glucose testing, EKG’s, Glaucoma and vision tests,
female (gynecological) exams, senior health screening and more.
The event will also include a Children’s exercise/activity area and a
stage with local performances by dance troupes and companies located in
Bowie. Come enjoy the performances and participate in Fitness Workouts,
Zunba Gold, Tai Chi, Yoga demonstrations, and much more!
The event is located along Health Center Drive (across from the Bowie
Town Center) in buildings hosting the event - Bowie Gymnasium, Bowie
Health Center, Bowie Physical Medicine Services, Bowie Senior Center,
Dimensions Surgery Center, Prince Georges County Fire and EMS
Department Northview Station #816 and Summerville at Woodward Estates.
Parking is available at these facilities and in the parking lot of
Bowie Town Center.
This is a must do event for anyone who wants to check their health
status or for those without health insurance. For more information,

Bowie
International Festival
On Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 11:00 am –
5;00 pm you are invited to participate in the Bowie International
Festival. Come expirence Greek
Music, Latin music, Irish Bands, Bolivian Dance, Crafts from Nepal and
Ecuador, Chinese Dragon Dance and more!
The entertainment begins with the Apollonia Greek Band at the
Amphitheater and Tinkus jayus representing Boliva at the Boathouse
Stage. Also, the Community Outreach
Committee will be holding another Food Drive to benefit the Food Pantry
at this year’s International Festival, you are encourage to bring
non-perishable food to donante.

56th Greenbelt Labor Day Parade
Labor Day is approaching, and with
it the annual Greenbelt Labor Day Parade. Fire trucks, bands, dance
groups, and you can make a great parade for all of Greenbelt. The
Parade will start at 10:00 am on Monday, September 6. The Parade is a great opportunity to
make the people of Greenbelt and the surrounding areas aware of
community organizations and what they do.
We invite you or your organization to
consider joining in the parade or walking with Council Member
Turner. If you are interested in

Council Member Ingrid M. Turner hosted the youth from the Camp
Fire USA summer program on a tour of the County Administration building
and discussion on how the legislative branch of the County operates. County Executive
Jack B. Johnson also met with the group to speak about the executive
branch of the county government.

Council Member Ingrid M. Turner along with Bowie City
Councilmember Diane Polangin, Principal Chris Mills,
and PTA President Beate Wilson were proud to
participate in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Kenilworth Elementary
School in receipt of their new playground equipment.

At
Catherine T. Reed, Council Member Turner presented a grant to the PTA
for $500 to purchase backpacks and supplies for children in need.
She partnered with Pastor Marvin Silver of the Amistad St. Paul church
who also addressed the need by working with his church members to donate
backpacks full of school supplies.

Council
Member Turner provided a sponsorship of $5,000 to support the
Back-to-School event and National Education Week which is scheduled for
November.

Council
Member Ingrid M. Turner was excited to co-sponsor the Lanham Arts
Infusion on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Participants were able to
listen to live performances by Winard Harper, The Marcus Mitchell Trio,
Shawn Allen, The Brian Forehand Trio, and the featured guest, The Billy
Taylor Jazzmobile from New York
