Public Meeting
to Discuss Flood Insurance Map Update
The Prince
George's County Department of Environmental Resources (DER), in
partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is
working to update the Flood Insurance Study and the Flood Insurance
Rate Map for the County. These updates will affect flood hazard
areas and flood insurance requirements for certain properties. FEMA
has scheduled a preliminary release of the updated Flood Insurance
Study and Flood Insurance Rate Map on September 30, 2009.
Prior to that, the County will be hosting public meetings to inform
citizens and residents about the FEMA map updates. Two public
meetings have been scheduled as follows:

Riverdale Park Day
Riverdale
Park Day will be held on October 3rd, 2009 from 12:00noon-5:00pm,
on the grounds of the Riversdale House Museum at 4811 Riverdale
Road. Free music and
activities for kids will be provided.

County Wide Cleanup
The
County will be hosting a fall cleanup event on October 3rd. The County will provide materials
necessary to work including gloves, bags, rakes, etc. The County will also pick up
leaves and trash after the event. Help keep your community and the
County clean. If your

Prince George’s Greenfest
The
Prince George’s County Greenfest will be held on October 3, 2009
from 11:00am-4:00pm at the Prince George’s Community College in
Largo. There will be green
vendors, educational workshops, information on green jobs, music,
art, etc. Admission is
free.

The
3rd Annual College Park Woods Community Fall Festival will be held
on October 10, 2009 from 12:00noon-4:00pm at the College Park Woods

2009 Gorgeous Prince George’s Day-October 17th
Join
your community by helping to plant trees and flowers as part of
Gorgeous Prince George’s Day.
All plants are provided free from the County. Contact your civic association or
municipal government to find out if your community is participating
in this countywide event.
All events will be spearheaded by your local neighborhood
association, municipality, or school. After planting trees and flowers,
swing by the Historic Bladensburg Waterfront Park (4601 Annapolis
Road in Bladensburg) from 12:00noon-3:00pm to celebrate.

Do you or someone else you know need rental assistance?
United
Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) is expanding its rental
assistance program thanks to increased funds from the Federal HOME
program. Funds are available for security deposits for eligible low
to moderate income residents.
To apply, call UCAP at 301-322-5700 between 8:30am and
8:00pm Monday-Thursday or 8:30am to 5pm on Friday.

Energy Efficient Homes
The
State government is expanding its home weatherization program,
designed to benefit low and moderate income families across
Maryland. Qualifying citizens can receive home energy audits
and home improvements at no expense to the owner. For more

Riverdale Park Farmers Market
Open—Every Thursday
The
Riverdale Park Farmers Market features produce, arts, and food
vendors as well as local entertainment. The market is open
every Thursday until Nov. 19, from 3pm to 7pm at the Riverdale Park
Town Center adjacent to the MARC station. To find out more about

College Park Farmers Market
Open—Every Saturday
The College
Park Farmers Market is open on Saturdays and will continue service
until November 21, 2009 in the parking lot of the Herbert Wells Ice
Rink (5211 Paint Branch Parkway in College Park). The farmers
market operates from 7:00am-12:00noon every Saturday. For

Local Code Enforcement Office Now in
District 3
The Prince
George’s County Department of Environmental Resources &
Property Standards Group now has a satellite office in District 3
at 5008 Queensbury in Riverdale Park at the Riverdale Park Town
Hall. This office can assist citizens living in Council
District 3 with their concerns about Housing, Zoning &
Commercial Properties. Resident walk-ins are welcome.
Hours of Operation are Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 - 12:30 p.m.
