Assistant State's Attorney

Law Clerk

Individuals interested in applying for Law Clerk positions must have a Paralegal Certificate and/or an Associate of Arts degree as a minimum educational qualification. A resume with a cover letter stating interest and availability is to be submitted. Resumes will be kept on file for six months. After that time, it is the responsibility of the applicant to resubmit a new and/or updated resume.

Victim Witness Coordinator

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office is seeking applicants for the part - time position (32 hours per week) of Victim Witness Coordinator for its Victims Witness Unit.  The Victims Witness Unit is comprised of a Chief, eight coordinators and three grant-funded advocates who are responsible for guiding victims and witnesses through the criminal justice system.   

This is a one-year grant funded position (July 1, 2013 – June 30, 2014).  Continuation beyond this term is contingent on future funding.    

TYPICAL DUTIES:  The selected candidate will provide outreach to victims and witnesses of criminal cases filed in District Court; act as a liaison between victims/witnesses and prosecutors to assist with the prosecution of criminal cases for trial and/or hearings; conduct interviews of witnesses and victims; and other duties required for the provision of comprehensive victim/witness services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES:  Must have an Associates Arts Degree allied to a program of behavior science or criminal justice; or any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Must pass a background investigation
  2. Must pass a drug screen

Investigator

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently seeking applicants to fill an Investigator position for its Investigative Unit.  The Investigative Unit is comprised of a Chief and six investigators who are primarily responsible for serving subpoenas, investigating complaints, providing security for the state’s attorney and office, transporting witnesses, conducting criminal history checks, and other tasks as assigned by the State’s Attorney and/or designee. 

This position is a generally-funded exempt position within the State’s Attorney’s Office.

TYPICAL DUTIES:  The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for providing security for the State’s Attorney and office in addition to conducting interviews of witnesses and defendants; investigation of complaints and allegations brought to the Office of the State’s Attorney for filing of criminal charges and prosecution; serving of subpoenas; completion of criminal history checks, and other assigned tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES:  Must have an Associates Arts Degree allied to a program of criminal justice, law enforcement, security administration or other similar programs requiring investigative techniques; or any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Must pass a background investigation
  2. Must pass a drug screen
  3. Must be available to work weekends and on call rotation
  4. Subject to meet requirements of Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commissions
