The Department of Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T) removes and performs elevation trimming of trees that are in the County rights-of-way. The County trees must be maintained to control their growth and to assure that they don't present a safety hazard to motorists or pedestrians by obstructing sight distances. The Department provides or coordinates this service on a 5-7 year basis, in addition to removing dead trees as necessary.

To report a down tree or tree limb, please call 301-499-8520, Monday thru Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM. except Holidays. For after hours emergencies, please call 301-499-8600.

Trees on private property are the responsibility of the homeowner. Removal of limbs from private property should be directed to the Department of Environmental Resources at (301) 952-7630.

Removal of trees on private property should be directed to the Department of Natural Resources, Forestry Division, at (301) 888-9214.
