Licenses & Inspection

Through the inspection of single family and multifamily homes, condominiums, and commercial structures, the Licenses & Inspection Group (LID) enforces the County's Housing and Property maintenance requirements. The Housing Code, which applies to all residential property (occupied, vacant or rented), ensures that all dwellings are properly maintained. The Property Maintenance Code requires owners of commercial and industrial structures to maintain and repair the exteriors of buildings which includes broken windows, trash and debris, sidewalks and parking areas.

LID inspectors also ensure that businesses applying for Use and Occupancy Permits meet all applicable Fire Code requirements. Depending on the use, these inspections can be as simple as ensuring that fire exit lights and fire extinguishers are working, or as complex as determining the construction of interior walls. To reach the LID call (301)883-6100.

LID also enforces the Anti-Litter and Weed, and Zoning Ordinances. The Anti-Litter and Weed Ordinance requires all vacant lots located outside a municipal area to be clear of trash, debris, and high grass. The Zoning Ordinance sets criteria for land use within Prince George's County.
