Boards and Commissions support the overall mission of the Department’s operating Divisions by administering the work of the various boards and commissions, overseeing complaints and appeals, scheduling hearings and meetings, and scheduling proficiency examinations.

Board of Registration of Building Contractors

Boards and Commissions (BC) manage the Prince George’s County Board of Registration for Building Contractors. Concerns such as application approval/denial and Show Cause Hearing items should be directed to the BC. The Building Contractors Board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at:

Applications for Contractor Licenses

Applications for contractor’s licenses must be submitted to the Business License Section at:

The deadline for submitting applications is the last day of each month by close of business. The Board reviews all timely applications the following month. Any inquiries on application requirements, licenses and expiration dates should be directed to the Business License Section at (301) 883-3840.

Commission for Animal Control

Boards and Commissions (BC) has oversight for the Commission for Animal Control.  BC processes the following items for review by the Commission:

  • Return of animals impounded by the Animal Management Division (AMD)
  • Requests to appeal citations received from AMD, such as  Animal nuisance complaints (excessive barking, running at large, odor, etc)
  • Hearing Requests (must be submitted in writing)

Hearings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, beginning

Board of Registration for Master Electricians, Journeyman Electricians, Apprentice Electricians, Electrical Contractors and Electrical Subcontractors

Boards and Commissions (BC) manage the Board of Registration for Master Electricians, Journeyman Electricians, Apprentice Electricians, Electrical Contractors and Electrical Subcontractors. Relative issues include continuing education credits, show cause hearings, application approval/denial concerns and electrical examination results. The Board meets the 2nd Thursday in January, March, May, July, September and November. Show Cause Hearings are scheduled concurrently, as necessary. The Board meetings are held at:

Electrical Examinations are given on the 2nd Saturday in February, April, June, August, October and December. Examinations are administered promptly at 8:00 a.m. at:

Vehicle Show Cause Hearings

Vehicle Show Cause Hearing Request Form

Show Cause Hearings are held 2-3 times per month, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Important Tips:

  • Customers are encouraged to pay for the release of their vehicle. DO NOT wait for the Hearing. Storage fees are incurred daily.
  • Requests for Show Cause Hearings must be made within 21 days of vehicle impound.
  • There are 3 types of tows (1)Vehicle Audit; (2) Police; and (3) Private.· Customers should direct civil issues or complaints concerning towing companies to civil court. They are not covered under Show Cause Hearings.
  • Applicants will be notified of the Vehicle Hearing Officer’s decision via mail.
