PERC Testing Season

perc testing seasonIf you have undeveloped property in Prince George's County and...

  • are planning to build soon, and
  • public sewer cannot service the property

...you should apply immediately for a soil percolation (PERC) test to be conducted on that property.

If your property meets these criteria, a PERC test is required before any septic system or on-site sewage disposal system can be installed there.

Wet season PERC testing is done seasonally, beginning this year on January 4 in Prince George's County. With adequate soil saturation levels, testing may extend through the month of April.

  • Application processing is handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The fee for testing is $170.00 per lot
  • Lots must be accurately and professionally surveyed and properly identified prior to percolation testing.
  • No tests will be conducted until the application has been received and processed.

Since the County had either an abbreviated wet season or no wet season at all during the last two years, percolation testing applications that were received by the Health Department during 2008 and 2009 will be acceptable for this wet season. Re-application is not needed unless additional lots are being tested that were not indicated in the previous applications.
