Street Smart is a traffic safety education campaign for suburban Maryland, northern Virginia, and Washington, DC. Since 2002, the Street Smart campaign combines education and enforcement to increase awareness of traffic safety laws and promote responsible behaviors of drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. The campaign occurs annually in the spring and fall. This year’s spring campaign will occur between April 11-May 8, 2016.
Watch for education and outreach Street Teams at high traffic areas of Prince George’s County beginning the week of April 18, 2016. Also be on the lookout for law enforcement at these same high traffic areas keeping the streets safe and enforcing pedestrian safety laws beginning the week of April 25, 2016.
May is National Bike Month and a variety of activities are scheduled in Prince George’s County to celebrate bicycling. May 4, 2016 is National Bike to School Day. This event encourages students, faculty, staff and communities to try walking or biking to school instead of driving.
